Anyone,

What are the choices for a traveler to have internet connections on Tenerife?

Are there internet cafes where a wireless signal can be picked up by a laptop, for a fee?

Thanks.

There are plenty of internet cafes where you can use machines for a fee. Subway have a system whereby you buy a coffee and they give you their password to use your own laptop FOC.

Thanks, Rob.

I have a story about internet cafes, too.

In Mount Shasta City, we were sitting in our parked car outside an internet cafe. We were in the middle of a two month interview and background check process before going into a well paid position in the San Francisco area, and our money had run out.

We didn't even have two dollars for the internet, and needed to send an email having to do with the job.

As we sat there with the windows open, a woman we'd never seen before stopped and asked abruptly, "Where are you going?"

We had been camping on the upper slope of Mount Shasta and I answered, "To the mountain."

But she mis-heard. She raised her blouse, showing her bare breasts, and started doing a dance, with a sing-song of "To Maui, to Maui!"

I said, "No, to the mountain!"

She stopped, put her blouse down, and said, "Oh."

Then she walked out of our sight.

While Kati and I looked at each other in wonderment, she came back, tossed two dollars through the open window, and said simply, "Here."

Before we could respond, she was gone.

Now we had the money for the internet cafe!

Yes wifi spots are becoming quite popular and there are a number of cafes, bars offering free wireless connection if you stop for food or a coffee.

Very Happy

Wifi is simply connecting to the internet via a router by radio signals instead of cables. If you had a router with an aerial and a wireless card in your computer you could connect to your router without using a cable. Not much point in your apartment as there's only you using it.

Actually Rob, there is an advantage for the Bard even if he is the only user of the computer in his home. I have a router and I find it very convenient that I am able to use my laptop in any room of the apartment as well as on the balcony and the roof terrace. With a cable one is very restricted as to where one can use a computer.

I don't have a laptop and my PC is a big tower type so it stays where it is!

You could obtain a router, a wheelbarrow and a long long extension cable. Laughing
