A further update on this is that for about three months I saw no Monarchs here at all and in that time my plants grew back and I was thinking I had plenty of food for caterpillars now if only I had some again.

Then a few weeks back a lone female turned up for two days in a row and laid eggs all over my plants. I had to make sure Tiggy didn't kill her too.

After they hatched I learned that spiders and hoverfly larvae will eat tiny baby caterpillars so the numbers got reduced a bit. I still thought I had just about enough to feed them all but I am running out fast and have 12 nearly full grown, 1 half-grown and 3 ready to pupate caterpillars. I am praying there will just about be enough with what's left on the larger swan plant but it's not looking too promising!

The good news is I had a phone call from my friend Jane in Chayofa who grows Milkweed and is into helping the butterflies and she has plants but no caterpillars so if all fails here some of them can go to a new home at her place.

I've had Monarchs around for the last few weeks but as I've ripped out my gardens for a redesign there's nothing for them at the moment. i'll have to get some more seeds later.
