Hi Haynes and welcome to the forum,
There is currently a job vacancy on the jobs thread for a nail technician (previous experience in Tenerife required) although it is very unlikely that you will get a job unless you currently live on the island and have NIE etc. (Unless maybe tele-marketing or the likes)
The job is advertised Here as the 6th job listed
As for tilers, maybe you need to be in contact with other English tradesmen on the island and build up a 'working relationship' with them. From what I knnow it appears to be that the English on the island prefer English tradesmen, whether it be building work or a car service.
Hats off to you, I can't plaster to save my life, it stays on the wall fine but never a glass smooth finish, mind you I'm not trained as a plasterer, maybe that explains it _________________

Work is not plentiful at the moment but if you're very good then you'll find work if you try hard enough. I've just had a load of tiling done, I have a little more to do if you're quick. _________________ .

When you say that the only thing that worries you is work.... do you mean as self employed or a job working for others? _________________ .

Then you'll be out of luck I fear, there's been a huge downturn in the construction industry and plenty of experienced Tenerife tilers and plasterers are searching for work.... and they know how to use the local products which I can assure you are very different to what you're used to. _________________ .

If instead of working 40 hours per week for someone else you were to spend 20 hours per week knocking on doors and asking for work...then work 20 hours a week for yourself at double what you could earn working for someone else then eventually you'll get more work and more money.
You're much better off working for yourself if you're a good worker. Even if you landed a job at some point you'll get laid off when there's no work. _________________ .

Have you been to Tenerife before Haynes? Sorry if you have already mentioned it.
The reason I ask is before we moved over we came for 3 visits and I was lucky enough to have the help of my brother who has been over here for years, as well of course the help of members on this forum.
As Rob touches on above and rephrased, if your heart is in it, you are good, polite and do not RIP people off, then you can do well.
Over here word of mouth is one of the most powerful sales tools you can have, and the sun4free directory is a cheap place to start to kick that into action.
Have a think about what you and your family want. _________________ Need a cleaner in South Tenerife ? Cleaning just got better... www.maid4tenerife.com

Hi Haynes and welcome. I must have missed this thread yesterday Good luck and keep in touch with us on the forum. When do you think you'll be moving? Good for you with the Spanish. Too many people think they won't need it but I truly believe it will make your life a lot easier over here if you at least have a basic knowledge. _________________ Who am I?
