Post subject: A mother Cellar Spider and her babies |
|
|
I have has a female Cellar Spider (Pholcus phalangioides) living in her web right up in the ceiling corner of my room here and she has just given birth to a lot of babies who are all around her and can be seen in the photo below as a lot of small dark dots.
This species is also known as the Skull Spider because of a marking on its body said to look like one.
The amazing thing about all this is I had this species of spider living in my house in Wales and now I have exactly the same type here.

Great photos Bard, It's hard to believe that the little dark dots are actually baby spiders. How small must they be, maybe 1-2mm across? _________________

Hi Bard.
Wonderful photos.
I can just make out the very fine legs on some of the "little dark dots"
So tiny though, even though you increased the size.
Keep up the good work you do. _________________ Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. |

Thanks, Mary! That was what I was aiming at - so the little legs could be seen! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |
