Hello!
I'm Valentina from Bucharest, Romania and I strongly wish to move to Tenerife with my family (my husband and 2 little daughters). Since May, when my husband came with this idea I read all I found about Tenerife(well, not all but a lot of stuff) and now my head is full of others impressions and my impressions -based only on what I've read. Browsing the Internet to find things about Tenerife, I've notice that, usually sites and forums are from UK people or associations -relocated or not in Tenerife- for their fellows, to help and guide them; but, I wanted to post anyway when I saw the decent and helpful manner which this forum moderators treat everybody here.
Back to subject, our plan to relocate in Tenerife, is something like that: to come next year, in June or July, to see around and to get necessary legal papers for my husband so he can rent long term and look something to work (now, he is massage therapist and me - secretary); after a while when he has a job (I forgot to tell you that I'll be back to my girls after a month and he will stay to get a job), the rest of our family will come and I intend to get a job, too (it's hard, I know!!) and get the kids to Spanish school and kindergarden (hard, but kids have the "easy adapt" capacity).
And, finally, after 1-2 year in here, if everyone of our family wants and enjoy staying here then will sell our property from back home and maybe buy a bussiness in Tenerife.
Basics, this is our "intend to do" plan but may have a lot of "holes" that's way I wanted your advice, and don't forget, be gentle...

In my opinion this forum is the best and to understand what are my feelings when I read the posts and your replays, I want to tell you something:
one of the most important reasons for us to relocate in Tenerife are the people: their amability and joy to live. In our country, people get sad in the last years, most of them working hard to live, far away for Tenerife life style. (In here, we have a decent life -not very easy- but we want more for our kids and us.
And this joy, this amability, this mood is sensing when you are in here, on this forum.

Hi Valentina and welcome to our forum. As you'll probably have seen, the single most important thing is to learn Spanish, Romanians that I've met here tell me that they find it quite easy as there are a lot of similarities to their own language.

You're right about Spanish language, Rob, it's similar with Romanian and after we bought a Spanish conversation guide we hope to learn something in this 10 month.
Now, I have a question for you about long term let: it's better to rent when we are there (we will have a 7 days accomodation first) or from internet? And if we rent directly it's more safe with a real estate agency or there are no problems that we find something on the local newspaper?

Yes, if you read my articles on living in Tenerife and working in Tenerife you'll see that we recommend that you take a package holiday and then start looking for accommodation as soon as you arrive. In my opinion you can be just as safe renting directly either via the newspapers or El baul or just by looking for se alquila signs. Property rental in Tenerife is strictly governed and owners cannot overrule the law of the land.

Thank you. It's blue skies and sunshine here. Last night a friend rang from Berlin and told me that it was 6 degrees there! The middle of September and as cold as that! Sitting here in front of an open window with just a pair of shorts on ...... it doesn't seem real.
