Actually, I've been thinking about how I feel about spelling and typos and have come to the conclusion that by far the most annoying mistakes are to do with punctuation.
At least with spelling mistakes you can usually work out what the poster means (there, they're, their for example), even that famous misspelling of exhaust didn't stop me from understanding the post.
But......must admit that I was confused until a few minutes ago about lol.
I thought it was someone's name and that the writers had forgotten to place a comma before it and hadn't used a capital letter.
Then I decided that it was cropping up too many times.
So it means "lots of love" - I get it now.
This is not actually a rant. I am not a cross sort of person. I get too much sunshine for that.
It is a plea really.
Can you please put in full stops and maybe even take a new line when starting a new sentence? |

Hi Jean...lol is used lots in texting and MSN....it means "laugh out loud" or "lots of laughs" .........my twelve year old reliably informed me of this about a year ago, when I didn't know what it meant.
Funnily enough my mum recently wrote in my birthday card
"To Helena, happy bithday lol from mum and dad" ??
She thought it meant lots of love!
we had "lots of laughs" at her trying to be cool!!

Hey, thanks for telling me.
I like a good laugh myself but shan't be using it in my posts.
Good job I wasn't trying to be cool then.
So much to learn.
So little time. |

I think people put lol when they cant think of anything else to write, I have a friend who puts it randomly in text messages after things that are not funny....it is over used in my opinion. although I do use it (probably too much) ..... I hope you dont think I was implying that you are not cool!!! I'm sure you are very cool, like me! lol!
I too, hate bad punctuation , my husband does not use it at all, he just types and types without a coma or full stop, and my dad does the same, (they also cant spell), must be a man thing!

For me it depends where my writing is going. If it's for general public viewing I do my best but if it's an email, a pm or a message reply at a website to a friend (unless I know they have a thing about such matters) I don't bother so much! I personally think it is a matter of speed!
lol is also used to show what a good sense of humour someone has! Even if they don't really! _________________ Find out more about me here: http://www.myspacetenerife.com/index.php?page=view_profile&id=10 |

OOPPPPSSS......I must the worse one on here for that actually. I use lol a lot, but only cos I am always happy and always laughing..
I do try not to use it and try and put heehee instead but then it takes so much to type that out....
I will try in future not to use lol anymore.....and maybe add faces instead.
It is the only NON english dictionary word i do use though ...the rest are just typos..... which I try very hard not to do but my fingers type faster than my brain functions.. _________________ Find out more at www.myspacetenerife.com

Hi Stripps, wish I could delete my post now!! I'm offending everyone! I dont mean people like you, who use it in a happy way, some people just put it everywhere for no reason whatsoever!! lol!! I do use it a lot too.
My daughter uses it on MSN after every sentence, so it has no relevance.
Hope I haven't offended you aswell!

GOD no not at all hunnie lol.....
That definitely wouldn't offend me...I was saying that I am probably the worse one on here... Even to the extent that in the thread that asks question for a weeks to members...I was asked 'do I like using LOL a lot.'
I think it is jst easier to type that rather than...god that was funny..lol

If you 'mouseover' the emoticons a meaning will appear although lol is shortened to laughing, my favorite is rofl or rotfl _________________ .
