Post Post subject: Websites using frames and ones that switch to Spanish Reply with quote

Why oh why are so many websites changing over to using frames now? It seems like someone commanded a few months or so back that as many websites as possible are all to use the frames technology and all I can say is I hate it! I am sure I am not alone!

I find them very hard to navigate and I find them in some cases impossible to edit in fact I came close to deleting a site of mine that now has this as a new development.

And why do websites like Myspace and Facebook keep making their sites worse and worse by adding more and more new stuff that nobody wants? They are surely losing customers not gaining them! Facebook even had people protesting the new changeover but they enforced it anyway! These sites are owned by fabulously wealthy owners but there are more and more site errors and problems than ever before especially at Myspace!

Many websites seem to automatically switch to Spanish too and I am sure this is fine if you are fluent in the language or have plenty of time to translate but if you aren't and haven't it is another new annoyance because it can slow down whatever you are doing or you have to find how to switch it to English! Youtube does this and there are many others!

Is it me getting old or what? I keep wishing things were like they were not so long ago! Progress? You can keep it!

Evil or Very Mad

Frames have never been the way to go and even less so now with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) there is simply no need.

You're not getting old, I hate frames and have done for as long as I can remember Smile

If it's the site that uses frames then they obviously don't want visitors, if it's a domain redirect using frames then most offer http redirect which is perfect and does not hinder navigation.

Thanks Andy! I am glad I'm "not getting old!" lol Actually I know plenty of younger people who agree with my complaints about many websites.

One site I was thinking of was Artist Launch which used to be a great site for independent and unsigned bands and singers but then changed hands and became a complete mess, changed over to frames and its forum became full of complaints with people wanting to delete their accounts or saying they were unable to navigate or had lost stuff. It now appears to have packed up!

The social networking sites are not catering for what people want. Facebook made BBC news fairly recently with the story of how it was bringing in a new style site whether people wanted it ot not (and a lot didn't and still don't!) and Myspace has got worse and worse. It was already a place you expected "unexpected errors" but now it's often a matter of luck if it's working properly. Recently they brought in new song players and for many acts they were not working, which was admitted and they were "working on it." Again like Facebook, users were not given any choice. We were not asked do we want the new players or would we like to stay with the old ones? It was a matter of you are all having these whether you like it or not! Someone posted the other day: "How is it that in an age of space flight and advanced technologies a site like this has millionaires that own it and yet it cannot even organise mp3 players that work?" That just about sums it up?

Facebook keeps adding "applications" so people on there especially newcomers feel obliged to spam everyone they know with rubbish like "hippy gifts" and "good karma" and "plants to save the rainforest" and other such junk. There's a "what are you doing now?" intrusive question on there and I recently answered: "Steve is deleting all the useless applications!" and another time I said "Steve is refusing to answer questions here!" I know I am not alone in objecting to these 'improvements.' It also has a new intrusive chat option which as I found out yesterday means that a chat box suddenly appears on top of what you are doing and quite possibly from someone you don't even know! If I didn't have a lot of good friends on there I wouldn't use the site at all!
