NIE is a registration form that identifies you as a foreinger (spelling??lol)) in tenerife.

you need it for buying property, work, social, doctors, schools just about everything out here actually.

in the south we take completed forms to L A police station with a copy of form and your passport and a copy of passport. They stamp it and then you go back a few weeks/months ,depending on how busy they are, and collect your NIE number.

some people may take you on if you show them a copy of your application and tell them it has been stamped and you are waiting for number.......some might not i have a copy of the link some where i will find it for you trish wots your email addy????

Errr yes please, its in spanish hehehe. So if i do that the first day im over i might have it back in a week or two cant not have work for more than the first month really... need to start earning after first few weeks. *panic*

Most employers should take you on as long as you show them the stamped application form - I wouldn't worry about that.

Regarding previous link - - they keep changing things just to make life more complicated. Getting NIEs and Residency cards are the two most complicated things here in Tenerife and the rules keep changing. Maybe they do that so people give up at the first hurdle and go home

See i posted something about official documentation i would need coming out age ago and dont think it got answered and now i find out i need an NIE and Residency card???

Residency card is something to think about later - it's not a legal requirement but can help you get discounts to certain places (oh and it takes even longer to get than the NIE and is a lot more complicated - you will need a work contract).

The only things you really need are:

NIE number, then work with contract, then sort out Social Security so you can visit the Doctors and claim unemployment benefit if you lose your job, then register at Doctors. I think that's all to start with Don't worry though you don't have to do it all in the first week!

I did see you post about the apartment - that's awful. I reckon the best thing you can do is come over on a package deal and find an apartment when you get here - at least then you'll be able to check it out properly and know who you're dealing with. It's not a good idea to send money to anyone you don't know and trust! Let it be a warning to others.

Re-apartmentnt... Definately a warning to others... I am going to stick with my friend of a friend with the apartment at ocean view as i know that is legit and nice etc as ive been there. So i do have accomodation not to worry
