Hey there

OWCH That sounds painful.

I hope the dentist can sort it.
Fingers crossed!!!

The best answer is if I can get her to fill it. She wants to extract it and the others even though one is totally fine - why take out a tooth with nothing wrong with it? She didn't like it when I saw her last time because I would not agree to what she wanted to do and at one point said "I am the dentist here." And I thought, well, yeah, but it's my mouth!

Next to the bad tooth is a tooth I am most ashamed of that is a molar mostly made of amalgam. The dentist wants to pull that too and much as I'd love to not worry about the mercury it is a major part of that line of teeth and if you pull it and the wisdom tooth next to it I am likely to be in for days of suffering while the sites heal over. I have only had one tooth out before and that bled for days after and was embarrassing because I had to go to college with a mouthful of blood.

I saw the news recently that Shane MacGowan has finally got his teeth fixed and it said he was worried about his face caving in from lack of teeth, but, his situation is very different - at least he can afford the expensive implants. And I really don't fancy dentures!

Hi I'm still about.

I was due to have a wisdom tooth out but in the end they decided it was too difficult to get to and they may damage the nerve so they've left it alone.

I'm doing 2 part time jobs and I managed to get some overtime today but it's hard work rushing about in this heat.

Hi Sarah!

Yes, I have read that that can happen - the nerve can get damaged and sometimes permanently. Then there's likely swelling and pain plus the possible complication of a dry socket! Why risk all that I say?

In my case I have two badly broken upper wisdom teeth but they do not hurt at all and are obviously dead, then there is one healthy lower one and one that has a cavity that is causing problems as it is sensitive and aches. If I only have any at all pain from one though, why do I want to endure having another three out plus all the likely pain? Or am I missing some benefit here? I can't think what it would be!

Hi Bard,

I am still posting.

Just got back from our holiday in Los Cristianos so that is why I have not been on for the past 2 weeks, but I am back on the forum now.

We had a great time, I am just going through the ticks at the moment.

Really - I cannot imagine Shane MacGowan with a mouthful of teeth, I have never understood that with all his money that he never did something about his teeth before......perhaps he thought people would not recognise him with teeth! Rolling Eyes

Apparently he really didn't have enough money and has been able to afford it now because of a Pogues reunion tour. It will have cost thousands as he has presumably got implants and would have needed a lot of work done on his mouth. I read that he wanted to get them fixed before but couldn't afford it. I believe this because I have met equally famous musicians who have been more or less broke.
