Dear All,

I had an opportunity to read a thought-provoking article in a recent copy the "Times" which spoke of the regular exodus of (migrant) people from North Africa onto the shores of Canary Islands. Fuerteventura was mentioned specifically in the article. In it, the Spanish government are vowing to prevent the islands becoming an entry port into Europe.

Is anyone aware of this becoming an issue on the islands, particularly in Tenerife?

Cheers........ Exclamation

if you read the local english papers there is always articles on this.
just this year there has been over a 1000 immigrants that have landed here in the south.

we often see movement down the marinas nowadays. epecially amarilla, el medano and galletas.

they actually aim for these areas nows thinking its easier than cristianos and santa cruz.

read the article in the current tenerife news. that will shed a bit more light for you

Hi Strippers...

Thanks for that. The reason that I found it a little alarming is that I'm planning to purchase property on the island this year and I don't want anything to shatter the dream that I have in my mind.... of a relaxed, island paradise...

belive me nothing could shatter that dream. Tenerife life is great!!!
The weather is great, the people are fab, the pace of life is slower and less stressful. its great out here.

you hear these stories in the press because its such a small place in comparison to UK and the rest of europe.
It is kept very on top of, they see them coming and arrest are made. it really doesnt effect life out here for us just for .....immigration and lifeboats lol.

you will love it out here no problem Cool

I also live in Los Abrigos, and I've noticed that our little fishing harbour seems to have become the port of choice for the illegals, recently. There have been at least half a dozen incidents in the last couple of months, but as Dodgy says, it all gets dealt with very quickly and relatively quietly.

The local government have just announced that they are building a new early-warning radar system to monitor small craft off the South coast, so, hopefully, they will soon be able to pick them up off-shore, before they even land! Very Happy

Dear All,

Thanks very much for your interest and conributions in relation to this matter. I have to confess that I was becoming a little anxious over the whole thing on the basis of media coverage in the UK.

It's good to see the flip side of the coin. You have helped to soothe and allay my fears.

Cheers........ Wink
