Amarilla Golf Club, Captains Charity 2004/5
Thursday 7th July saw the presentation of a cheque for 850 Euros from past captain Ian Sharp to Elsie Clinton-Leslie president of the K9 animal charity. Each year the Captain nominates a charity to give a little to those less fortunate and this year, bearing in mind the support and work that Captains wives put in behind the scenes, as Ian’s wife is a great supporter of K9 it was only fitting that he chose his wife’s favourite charity. This amount would have been greater but for the terrible tsunami that hit Asia at Christmas time. The captain decided to donate all takings from Christmas to Easter to the Tsunami Appeal and this raised 900 Euros, this figure was further increased by a donation of 500 Euros from club funds. This is a healthy sum from a small club, with members paying out 50 cents or 1 Euro every time they went into the ‘Captains Bunker’. This was forcefully collected by Midge Watson at the end of every game and woe betide anyone who forgot!
