Amarilla Golf Club - Margot
Moffat Trophy 2005
Sunday 30th October and the clocks went back an hour
during the night giving us all an extra hour in bed
(apart from those who forgot and got up an hour early,
no names!). A full field started out in ideal balmy
conditions, the usual warm sunny weather and no wind
early on although most of us woke up to very strong
winds which lasted for about half an hour and then disappeared.
The course was in good condition, the weather was benign
but Domingo had been seen the evening before cutting
the pin holes. Sadistic was one of the descriptions
given to some of the pin positions and when Domingo
was seen on the course with a big grin across his face
a few more choice epithets were uttered by some!
There’s been many a comment about the small size
of the greens over the years but during the last 12
months these have been substantially altered and enlarged.
Now the biggest complaint is the number of three putts
that are creeping onto scorecards! Abraham Lincoln was
right!
The Moral victor of the event had to be John Brooksbank
who carded the top score of 38 points but his marker
had put in a wrong gross score (but correct points)
for one hole which John didn’t notice and signed
the card as being correct; the committee had no choice
but to disqualify him and award first place to Glen
Davis playing off scratch who scored 36 points. Commiserations
from everyone John, especially after being disqualified
in a team game on Friday, two disqualifications in a
week!
