Amarilla Golf Captain’s Letter
Dear Member:
As with all newsletters, it is inevitable that I will forget something!
On 30th April, Captain´s Drive In, Jan Stanley achieved a hole in one. Our congratulations to Jan.
On 4th April Brian Gladwin sponsored a competition to celebrate his 70th birthday. This was followed in the evening by his birthday party. The entertainment, buffet, together with local “talent” was superb. Ask to see the DVD. Many thanks Brian.
The Annual presentation for 2006 will be held at the Villa Cortes Hotel on 10th February 2007. I would appreciate as many people as possible coming to make it as good a night as in previous years.
This is the last letter before the “swallows” start coming for the winter, so can I remind each one of you to please bring out with you your handicap certificate and playing record.
Though it has been quiet over the summer we have never the less enjoyed some excellent competitions.
In August we had the “Old Bill” which on a very hot day was won by Eddi Greygoose. This was followed by the Summer Knockout Greensome which was won by Bernie Massey and Brian Masters on the last hole from Ann Dunlop and Rob Carless.
Once again this year Marion Yates sponsored the Steve Yates Trophy on 3rd September. Marion always gives of her best for this trophy in memory of her late husband for which we thank her. The five prize winners were:
| First | I Sharp (who defended his title from last year) |
| Second | J Stanley |
| Third | A Watson |
| Fourth | I Hooley |
| Fifth | A Almond |
I would personally like to thank Marian for her efforts on behalf of the Captain´s Charity.
The monthly medals were won by:
| May | Div I | R Leadbeater | Div. II | J Miller |
| June | Div I | G Bickerton | Div II | J Miller |
| July | Div I | G Bickerton | Div II | J Stanley |
Congratulations to all the winners over the summer. Well done!
This summer saw the retirement of Isaac Sirotta. Isaac has been head green keeper at Amarilla for longer than most can remember. A nicer, more amiable man you could not find. We held a competition on 27th September, followed by one of his famous barbeques, two lambs and more meat than anyone could eat. I am sure we all wish Isaac and his wife Susannah a very happy retirement.
Last week the men from Amarilla took on Golf del Sur over at Golf del Sur. A very enjoyable day was had by all even though it was scorching hot. I can only assume GDS have improved, as they managed to hold us to a draw! My thanks to everybody who turned out on behalf of Amarilla. I hope to arrange a return at “home” for mid October.
I now look forward to seeing all our members, old and new, for the winter season and trust we all enjoy our golf at Amarilla Golf Club.
Alan Watson
