Amarilla Golf Club- Masters
trophy 2005
The eighth edition of the Masters trophy was held on
Amarilla golf course on Sunday 16th October. A full
house turned out once again and sponsors Brian and Jan
Masters were on hand to act as starters and also to
welcome the players turning out for their very own ‘Masters’
tournament. With the days getting a little shorter it
was impossible to get the first players away on time
at 0740 which gave those struggling to arrive on time
an extra respite.
As the results began to come in every group seemed to
have more than it’s share of ‘what ifs and
if onlys’. No-one had set the course alight and
there were several ‘non-returns’ including
yours truly. The housewarming party that I attended
on Saturday night was the only excuse that I could offer,
the first few holes were OK then the effects of the
night before wore off and that was the start of the
end.

After seeing his players off the mark as starter Brian then headed for the 18th to meet incoming golfers and keep a running results table which enabled the presentation to be held quickly and efficiently with players being met with a complimentary ploughman’s lunch on arrival at the bar.
Last weeks Presidents cup winner Ian Sharp made it to the winner’s frame yet again just squeezing in ahead of Od Waage who had very honestly volunteered his card from a midweek game on another course to cut his handicap before playing, an action which in fact cost him the winners spot but it’s good to see honesty prevail.
Another opposite matter of golf etiquette reared its head once again. Club rules state that in order to win a prize players must attend the presentation or give their apologies to the captain or a member of the committee, good manners would also dictate that apologies be offered to the sponsors as well. The original winner was therefore disqualified and the prize given to the next best player.
