Amarilla Golf- Presidents Cup 2005
Antonio Peña Tavio and family presented the largest Presidents day ever on the 8th October 2005. So many players entered that with no marshals controlling the speed of play some people were unable to complete their rounds. This seemed to do nothing to dampen spirits as players and family members enjoyed the meal and liquid refreshments that carried on late into the night. Although Antonio is not in the best of health at the moment he did manage to attend the prize giving ably supported by his wife and family.
As the members of Amarilla Golf Club have come to expect there were some fabulous scores posted but pride of place must go to past captain Ian Sharpe who playing off a handicap of 6 carded a gross one over par, this on a day that the prevailing wind decided to do an about face and blow from the opposite direction to normal. No doubt ´Sharpie` will be ruing ´´the one that got away`` but we all know that it was a great round Ian and congratulations once again from all of us.
Some Amarilla Golf Club members managed to carry away prizes for nearest the pin Johnny Miller and Marion Yates won her category in the ladies section. Marion wasn’t at the presentation so there’s no photographic evidence here. Jorge Tavio, who many of us have known since he was a toddler managed to have a hand in the organization and concentrate enough to produce a great card, well done Jorge.
