Isaac, head Green keeper’s retirement
Isaac the very popular head green keeper from Amarilla Golf and Country Club Tenerife held a retirement party on Sunday 20th August. Many members of Amarilla Golf Club and friends and family of Isaac played a Stableford best two from four team game with a shotgun start at 9.00 AM, unfortunately this was rather too early for some of his Spanish friends who couldn’t get out of bed at this time on a Sunday morning. This resulted in a major headache for the starter who was desperately trying to make up teams to ensure that everyone who turned up got a game and started on the correct tees. Eventually calm was created from chaos and the rocket went up to signal the start, conditions were ideal the pace of play was comfortable and everyone was looking forward to the party and bar-b-q that was to follow.
Isaac was in his element with the preparations for the bar-b-q, two whole lambs, a flock of chickens, sausages and ribs were all being cooked and presided over by Isaac and family while some of the member’s wives prepared salads etc. Wine and beer were in abundance, a mixture of English and Spanish language was attempted by all, the whole day being one of relaxation, thanks to Isaac for a great job over the years, and a festive atmosphere.
Isaac thanked everyone for their support over the years, the club members in particular recalling the difference that Isaac had made to the course during his tenure. Amarilla Golf course is a fabulous test of golf with every hole being a completely different character to the one before and the one following. Now that the course is in such good condition and the surrounding areas are being landscaped and tidied it is a pleasure to play the course, a demanding but true test of golf. Amarilla Golf Club members wish Isaac many years of happy retirement and perhaps now that he has more time we’ll see him on his beloved course trying to master the game as well. More photographs of the ‘fiesta’ following the golf can be seen in the gallery
