Amarilla Golf Captain’s Letter - October 2004
Dear Member
As winter rears its dreary head over most parts of Europe, Amarilla Golf is basking is sunshine. It’s not easy swinging a club with the sweat on your brow and the sun in your eyes, but I guess we’ll cope. Well that’s enough of the weather report from McAskill now for the club news from Ian Sharp:
Competition News:
President’s Day – Danny Lassiter won the best gross prize and Barbara Jennison our Secretary, won the best ladies prize. Danny won a week in Majorca and Barbara won a two night break in La Gomera. Well done to both our members for a successful day.
The Masters Green Jacket – this was won by our ViceCaptain, Eddi Greygoose whose score was 67 off 8. Out of all the winners of this popular competition, this is the first time that the Green Jacket has actually fitted the winner!
Residents vs. Swallows – this was an enjoyable day with the Residents triumphantly defending the trophy.
The Lions Weekend was well supported by club members with various members performing well over the weekend and walking away with several prizes.
Club championship - a strong field took part in Club Championship which was won by John Brooksbank doing a very small score for a big man John scored 65 off 19. Second went to Jan Stanley and 3rd place to Jim Pickering. Winner of the scratch prize was Geoff Bickerton with score of 75 and second place went to Lewis Bickerton (keep it in the family) with score of 77. A buffet in the clubhouse was enjoyed by all the competitors prior to the presentation.

Arthur Robinson Trophy – A special mention for Beryl Robinson – we have 58 names to play and 60 attending for lunch in the club house afterwards. Sorry you’re not with us Beryl but we send our best wishes. Trust us that the Club is sponsoring the Arthur Robinson and it is in good hands, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Special congratulations to Peter Hargreaves, alias Cleggy, one of our mature members who holed his tee shot at the 2nd for a hole in one, this was obviously talked in by Arnie Almond alias Compo and Ian Jennison alias Foggy! Peter was presented with a Hole in One shirt by the ladies in the Pro shop and he will also be presented with a little momento at the Dinner/Dance.
Subscriptions – To help with collection of these subs please put your 15 Euros in an envelope with your name on the front and put it in the competition box. The final date for payment of subs is 7th March at the AGM.
K9 Charity – we have now reached the E400 mark. Once again a big thank you to everyone.
It is nice to see our members who are not classed as Swallows or Residents, flying backwards and forwards to play a game of golf and give their support to the club.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the members and their families a very merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
Ian Sharp. Captain.
