Amarilla Golf: Steve Yates Memorial Trophy 2006
Amarilla Golf Club held the first of its 2006/2007 ‘Majors’ on Sunday September 3rd the event sponsored as usual by his widow Marion.
Conditions for the day were the same as the previous year – hot as blazes with some calima hanging in the air. For many members it was a case of getting round so that we could get into the relative cool of the clubhouse and a welcome drink or two. A couple of members managed to win prizes but didn’t attend the presentation or bother to give their apologies to the Captain or competition secretary which meant the prizes were forfeited.
Ian Sharp the defending Trophy holder managed to just pip his good friend ‘Super Gran’ Janet Stanley, these two are always there or thereabouts in all the major competitions, a sign of good golfers.
The event was finished off with a presentation and lunch in the clubhouse with the Captains wife Midge running a draw for the children’s charity.
