Amarilla Golf: Summer Knockout – 2006

Amarilla Golf Club’s annual Summer Knockout competition for 2006 was played over eighteen holes at the Amarilla Golf and Country Club Tenerife using Greensomes format with a draw being made for partners at each round. The final this year was between Bernie Massey and partner Brian Masters versus Ann Ford with partner Rob Carless.

The men drove off first followed by Bernie and then when Ann got to the tee box she was shaking so much that she couldn’t put her ball on the peg. Play got under way with Bernie and Brian taking three of the first four holes then Ann and Rob steadied things a little by taking the fifth. The game went up and down with Bernie and Brian always keeping their noses just in front.

With three to go Bernie and Brian were cruising at two up but there was still a twist in the tail as Ann and Rob won the next two holes; all square going to the last, both couples got onto the green and everything rested on the last putt on the last green. Bernie and Brian emerged victorious in what had been an excellent match played in good spirits by both sides.

This was Rob’s third appearance in the final of this competition in eight years, coming second each time! Fourth time lucky Rob?
