The Lovely Historical Town of Adeje
Adeje town is a lovely place which is far enough away from the busy and popular areas of the island to offer a lot of peace and quiet. It is quite a fair distance away from the coast but tourists still love to visit the town because it has retained lots of it's Canarian charm. Many visitors to Tenerife love to walk in the surrounding areas of the Barranco del Infierno (Gorge of Hell) where there are some superb vistas as well as a stream and waterfall which is over 200 metres high. There are some very rare plants growing in this gorge so the flora and fauna is quite exceptional.
The town boasts some superb historical buildings one of which is the fortress of La Casa Fuerte. This was home to a very influencial 16th century family called the Pontes. Other buildings include the lovely church of Iglesia de Santa Ursula and the grand monastery of Nuetra Senora de Guadelupe y San Pablo.
The modern part of the town of Adeje is lovely as well and many visitors like to go there because there are loads of great restaurants, bars, shops and traditional local businesses. If you like exploring then a day visiting this lovely town makes it well worth travelling a little inland to see it and you really get the real feel of the Canary Islands in a town like this.
