La Caleta a Picture Postcard Fishing Village in Tenerife
If you are looking for a quiet retreat on the island of Tenerife then you don't have to go too far down the road from Playa de las Americas to find one. La Caleta is one of the prettiest areas just 10 minutes away by car and with gorgeous beaches, superb golf courses and a fishing harbour that is picture postcard perfect it is the ideal location for either a holiday or as an option for moving to on a more permanent basis.
Being in the south of the island, Caleta enjoys 50 weeks of constant sunshine however the Trade Winds make the higher temperatures very comfortable. The daylight hours are gorgeous and the evenings just wonderful which tempts locals and visitors alike to enjoy a refreshing cool drink in one of the many open air bars in the town.

The beaches in La Caleta are made up of pebbles rather than sand although the sandier beaches can be found one kilometer in either direction of the resort. The coast runs towards Playa de las Americas and along to Los Cristianos. If you go in the other direction you will run into a more rural Tenerife and dip into the snug coves of Playa de Diego Hernandez and Hippy Bay. Hippy Bay can be found along some of the many walking trails and uncultivated countryside. This mainly rocky beach has some areas of flat rock which are used by many sunbathers who bask in the sun and enjoy the scenery.
As you can imagine swimming is really popular and access to deep waters can be made from many of the ladders that run down the rock sides in the more popular areas. Snorkeling is popular activities too due to the resorts beautiful clear water. If you prefer to stay above the water, you can take a boat trip to see whales and dolphins that are always somewhere just offshore.
For decades visitors have arrived on the island of Tenerife and fallen in love with it.
